First Americans tried communism...it didn't work!

American History
Did you know that our Pilgrim forefathers tried communism when they first landed at Plymouth Rock?
How’s that for a dramatic beginning to a story? Years ago, when I used to give a lot of talks to high-school classes, this was one of my favorites. It always got the students’ attention. And I have to admit, I also enjoyed seeing some liberal teachers get so upset with me they almost lost their lunches.
Here’s the story I told those students in those long-ago presentations. The Pilgrims who arrived at Plymouth Rock in 1620 were incredibly brave and hardy souls. They were motivated by the noblest of virtues. They vowed, each and every one, to be as selfless as possible — to always put the needs of the group first. They agreed to own everything in common and to share everything equally.
And their naïve piety almost killed them all.
We all know how the adventure began. A group of devout Christians, seeking religious freedom for themselves and eager to "advance the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ" in the New World, set sail from Plymouth, England in 1620. An investment consortium known as the Merchant Adventurers of London provided the expenses for the trip, including chartering the Mayflower and its 40-man crew.
The deal was simple: The Pilgrims agreed to establish a colony in what is now northern Virginia, where they would plant crops, fish the waters and hunt in the forests. They would return a certain percentage of each year’s bounty to London until their debt had been repaid.
Things went wrong from the start. First, the syndicate changed the deal, drastically reducing the amount they would loan the Pilgrims. The brave adventurers were forced to sell many of their own possessions, and much of their provisions, to pay for the trip. As a result, they landed in the New World badly short of supplies.
Next, the small ship they had purchased in Holland, which was to accompany them to America so they could fish the waters off the coast, had to be abandoned in England. Shortly after they set sail, the ship, badly misnamed the Speedwell, became "open and leakie as a sieve," as its captain reported. They returned to Dartmouth, where the boat was dry-docked for three weeks as repairs were made.
But to no avail. After leaving Dartmouth, the group sailed less than 300 miles when the Speedwell reported it "must bear up or sink at sea." This time the ships put in at Plymouth, England, where it was decided to go on without the Speedwell. On Sept. 16, 1620, the Mayflower set out alone to cross the Atlantic.
A month later, when they had reached the halfway point, fierce storms battered the ship and threatened the lives of passengers and crew. Many wanted to turn back for England. But if they abandoned the journey, they would lose everything they had invested. The Pilgrims decided to trust in God and sail on.
Despite the storms, the hazards, the crowding and the poor food, only one Pilgrim died during the voyage, a young servant. His death was balanced by the birth of a son to Stephen and Elizabeth Hopkins, who named their child Oceanus.
There were 102 passengers on board the Mayflower — 50 men, 20 women and 32 children — along with a crew of 40. The captain set a course along the 42nd parallel, a bearing that would carry him to Cape Cod. From there he intended to swing south and follow the coast to northern Virginia.
A little more than two months later, on Nov. 19, land was finally sighted and the captain turned the ship south toward Virginia. However, they soon encountered such "dangerous shoals and roaring breakers" that they turned back to Massachusetts. It was then that the grumblings of dissent turned into a full-fledged roar. Many of the passengers insisted on landing in present-day Massachusetts, where "none had power to command them."
The Pilgrim leaders decided to meet the explosive situation by asking each male on board, except for the crew, to sign a formal document that would lay "the first foundation of their government in this place." Thus the Mayflower Compact was born.
The Pilgrims were a diverse lot. Many of them were illiterate. Yet in creating the Mayflower Compact, they showed an extraordinary political maturity. They agreed to establish a government by the consent of the governed, with just and equal laws for all. Each adult male, regardless of his station in life — gentleman, commoner or servant — would have an equal vote in deciding the affairs of the colony. Of the 65 men and boys on board, all but 24 signed the agreement. The only ones who did not were the children of those adults who did sign, or men who were too sick to do so.
The first decision made under the covenant was to abandon efforts to reach Virginia and instead to settle in New England. The first explorers landed at Plymouth on Dec. 21, 1620. Weather delays kept the majority from seeing their new home for nearly two weeks. On Jan. 2, 1621, work began on the first building they would erect — a storehouse.
Because provisions were so scanty, it was decided that the land would be worked in common, produce would be owned in common and goods would be rationed equally. Not unlike the society Karl Marx envisioned of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
Unfortunately, thanks to illness, injury and attitude, the system did not work. Pilferage from the storehouse became common. Suspicions of malingering were muttered. Over the course of that first, harsh winter, nearly half of the colonists perished. Four families were wiped out completely; only five of 18 wives survived. Of the 29 single men, hired hands and servants, only 10 were alive when spring finally came.
The colonists struggled desperately for two more years. When spring arrived in April 1623, virtually all of their provisions were gone. Unless that year’s harvest improved, they feared few would survive the next winter. The Pilgrim leaders decided on a bold course. The colony would abandon its communal approach and permit each person to work for his own benefit, not for the common good.
Here is how the governor of the colony, William Bradford, explained what happened then. This is from his marvelously readable memoir (if you can make adjustments for the Old English spellings), History of Plimoth Plantation:
The experience that was had in this commone course and condition, tried sundrie years, and that amongst godly and sober men, may well evince the vanitie of that conceite of Plato & other ancients, applauded by some of later times; — that the taking away of properties, and bringing it in communitie into a commone wealth, would make them happy and flourishing; as if they were wiser than God.
For this communitie (so farr as it was) was found to breed much confusion & discontent, and retard much employment that would have been to their benefite and comforte. For yet young men that were most able and fitte for labor & services did repine that they should spend their time & strength to worke for other men’s wives and children with out any recompense.
Can you imagine? Some of the youngest and healthiest men in the colony complained that they were working like dogs “for other men’s wives and children.” Sounds like the situation in America today, where the taxes taken from those who work support many millions of others who don’t.
After three years of noble failure, the colonists had had enough. Once they replaced communal efforts with individual responsibility, the differences were dramatic — and life-saving.
Men went into the fields earlier and stayed later. In many cases, their wives and even their children (some barely past the toddler stage) worked right alongside them. More acres were planted, more trees were felled, more houses were built and more game was slaughtered because of one simple change: People were allowed to keep the fruits of their own labors.
In that simple sentence you will find the solution to all of the world’s poverty. Stop taking what others have earned. Let people keep the fruits of their own labors. Then get out of the way and watch the incredible abundance they will produce.
On this Thanksgiving weekend, some 390 years after the Pilgrims celebrated the first of this uniquely American holiday, let us remember the sacrifices they made, the devotion they showed and the lessons they learned.
Until next time, keep some powder dry.

George Bush accident--votes for Obama...funny!

George Bush Accidentally Votes For Obama

Nov. 06, 2012

Former U.S. president George W. Bush accidentally voted for Barack Obama today at a polling place near his Crawford, TX home.

According to local reports, the two-term Republican was confused by the instructions on his electronic voting machine and mistakenly cast a ballot he intended to discard.

Witnesses say Bush argued with poll workers for several minutes afterwards in a effort to redo his vote, but in accordance with state law they ultimately denied his request.

The embarrassing incident may have gone unnoticed if it weren't for a local newspaper reporter who happened to be voting in the next booth. Suzanna Everett, a politics correspondent for the Waco Times witnessed the entire ordeal and crafted a cunning scheme to make it public.

Left On Red

Barred by ethics rules from using knowledge gained within a polling station, Everett waited for Bush to leave the facility and ambushed him with a trick question designed to fool him into revealing the news himself:

"Mr. President Fox News is reporting that you've accidentally voted for Barack Obama. Would you care to comment?"

Thinking that his mistake had already been found out, Bush sought to minimize the damage:

"Yes unfortunately because of the incompetence of the folks who designed the ballot, my vote counted for the other guy," Bush responded. He then attempted to explain exactly how the mishap occurred:

"First of all, everything was very miss-maladjusted on the screen. You shouldn't put the senators and the congress people and the presidents all jumbled together like that. It's too crowded. Just confuses folks."

Bush then explained that after marking the wrong candidate, he sought to correct his error by clicking the red "Cast Ballot" button, thinking that it was designed to 'cast away' the ballot and bring up a fresh one:

"Usually red means stop and green means go. I thought I was stopping"

A New Legacy

Bush is no stranger to election day controversy, having been pushed into office himself by the Florida fiasco of 2000. In that election hundreds of votes intended for Democratic rival Al Gore went to protest candidate Pat Buchanan instead due to poor ballot design.

In an official statement released shortly after the event, former President Bush said his experiences today have inspired him to make electoral reform the signature cause of his post-presidency:

"Laura and I will be dedicating the next few years to fixing our electoral system. Every American deserves a clear, simple ballot when they go to the polling place."

However, the system Bush used has been deployed successfully around the country with little incident. A spokesperson for the company that manufactures the machines says they stand by their product:

"Until today we have never had a single instance of someone confusing the "cast ballot" button for a "cast away ballot" button. This is a problem unique to Mr. Bush, and we have no plans to change our machines."

INTEGRATED BIOSYSTEMS FOR A BETTER WORLD
Since the Gods gave us dominion over the planet and Moses walked the land oxygen levels have fallen from 26% to 20%, half of all plant and animal species are extinct, 2/3rds of the rain forests have been cut down, half the oxygen producing plankton in the oceans is missing, half the fish populations are gone, oceans are polluted with plastic and oil, half of the continents have been turned into deserts, half of all arable land is depleted of minerals, and most of the topsoil has been washed downstream into the oceans. Thousands of tons of radioactive waste have been dumped into the oceans. The Chernobyl meltdown contaminated most of the food in the Soviet Union. Over five thousand nuclear bombs have been detonated worldwide. Most of the land in the Middle East and Europe has been contaminated with depleted uranium. For the human race to survive the next thousand years we need to come up with a better plan.
We are at a fork in the road where we could witness the end of western civilization. We need to create jobs and follow in the footsteps of the rest of the world by utilizing other sources of energy. This will reduce our dependence on foreign oil and save lives, save resources and eliminate wars. Corporate greed and our monetary system are partially to blame for this destruction of the environment. Maybe we should take a closer look at the Quaker and Mennonite methods of sustainable agriculture that doesn’t burden the environment?
I envision small villages or colonies of five to ten families each living in harmony with nature on five to forty acres of land. Each colony will have one or more aquaponic greenhouse capable of providing all the protein and plant nutrients with enough surpluses left over to trade with populated areas to purchase farm equipment. Each colony will utilize solar, wind and clean burning pellet stoves. Transportation costs are reduced substantially. The consumption of oil for transportation and plowing up the land will be reduced to a bare minimum. Sustainable agriculture is one that doesn’t burden the environment. Little or no soil is used and the only coal and oil burned will be in certain industrial centers for the production of solar cells and machinery used by the colonies.
Fred Murkowski of the University of Wisconsin Sea Grant is assisting Will Allen and other urban framers to develop aquaponic systems that can produce fish protein along with greens for human consumption. www.Seagrant.wisc.edu also www.GrowingPower.org
One of Will Allen’s trade secrets is using multilevel tiers above the fish tanks that effectively turn 3000 square feet of space into 5000 square feet of growing area.

I believe INTEGRATED BIOSYSTEMS is the answer. We propose to construct five test colonies costing approximately one million dollars each. We are currently constructing a small test colony out of pocket. We will accept any donations in kind.

BREAKING: Texas Secession Petition to Be Reviewed by White House

Petitioners Renew Talk of Texas Secession

At least 33 states are presently represented by secession petitions.
As of 12:45 pm pacific time, November 13th, the following are the 33 states petition links and their signature counts:
Louisiana, 29,598; Texas, 78,370; Florida, 23,399; Alabama, 21,682; North Carolina, 20,469; Kentucky, 13,185; Mississippi, 13,206; Indiana, 14,002; North Dakota, 9,051; Montana, 10,124; Colorado, 15,284; Oregon, 10,829; New Jersey, 10,374; New York, 11,620; South Carolina, 16,421; Arkansas, 15,805; Georgia, 22,384; Missouri 13,297; Tennessee, 21,055; Michigan, 13,947; Oklahoma, 12,418; Nevada, 6,763; Arizona, 13,463; Pennsylvania, 8,552; Delaware, 5,210; South Dakota, 2,687; Nebraska, 3,085; Kansas, 4,019; Alaska, 4,071; California, 6,989; Utah, 4,966; West Virginia, 2,990; Wyoming, 5,143.
It’s been a hectic 48 hours. Sunday afternoon I spotted a YT video that reported citizens from 15 states had petitioned to secede from the United States. “Odd news item,” was my only thought. I posted it. 24 hours later by yesterday evening, the list of petitions had grown to 30 states. This morning it’s 33 states.
The sudden state secession petition phenomenon may or may not mean anything other than a very large “pay attention to what we are saying” political foot stomp by conservatives, but the civil action certainly caught fire fast enough. Texas had acquired their required 25,000 votes within a day and their petition now has more than 74,000 signatures.
I would advise all who are naming calling this secession drive as “racist” to drop the dead tired adolescent name calling. Anyone who can balance a personal checkbook knows our nation is teetering on the edge of absolute fiscal catastrophe and that has nothing whatsoever to do with race. It does have everything to do with GOVERNANCE [ or the lack thereof. ] I have no reason to believe that Barack Obama will do anything other than continue to turn on the Federal printing presses for four more years to inject enough money into the economy to put on the show of a false economic recovery. I would surmise that many fiscal conservatives, like myself, might sign a secession petition just to make a statement that spending more borrowed money at the multi-trillion dollar level is a recipe for the death of the nation.
Cited: “I am completely aware that Election Day was a catalyzing moment, but I do not believe that the underpinnings of this are solely about Barack Obama,” Texas Nationalist Movement president Daniel Miller told POLITICO. “This cake has been baking for a long time — it’s the Obama administration that put the candles on the cake and lit it for us.”
These petitions may possibly set the national stage for an official airing of grievances at least. A possible national election recount is not completely out of the question according to some. Serious incidents of voter fraud have turned up in key swing states. Subscribe to this news blog receive the latest on all of this, and check back with this front page as I will continue to update it daily.
Cited from ‘The Blaze” news blog:
“Is this simply the product of a few thousand discontents in each individual state? Perhaps. But Texas’ petition has over 40,000 signatures, well over the 25,000 necessary to reach the attention of the President. If this turns out to be more than the discontented murmurings of a single state, this story may get ugly.”
A total of 33 States have filed online petitions to peacefully secede from the United States. Keep track of the growing list of states here: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petitions
White House may respond to Texas secession petition
Cited: “The White House may opt out of replying. Under its own rules, “To avoid the appearance of improper influence, the White House may decline to address certain procurement, law enforcement, adjudicatory, or similar matters properly within the jurisdiction of federal departments or agencies, federal courts, or state and local government in its response to a petition.”

Excerpt from the Texas secession petition:

“The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.”

My thoughts on the matter …
Maybe alleged time traveler John Titor was right after all. Years ago a mysterious personage began posting messages to Usenet [ remember Usenet? ] telling the internet community that he was a time traveler returning from the future, specifically the year 2036. He told astounded web citizens on Usenet that he had traveled back in time to locate an obscure piece of computer equipment that was desperately needed in the future, and to warn people in the present of certain coming events. Titor told a stunned and frankly disbelieving internet audience that there was a civil war in America’s near future, [ his recent past ] and went on to describe how this conflict ripped the country in half, and what came later.
So you can imagine my astonishment when I found about a half dozen news sites reporting that at least 20 states have filed petitions to secede from the US last night. I’m still not sure if this is a GOP protest prank or a real movement, but the petitions are real. They are posted on the White House website, and at least two of them have more than 10,000 signatures already: Louisiana and Texas.
It’s not difficult to foresee that the financial implications of approaching new Obama regulations, Obamacare and the coming January 1st expiration of Bush tax cuts will all soon converge into an imminent perfect storm of fiscal overload. I think this coming fiscal tsunami is forcing many states to consider drastic options for their own financial and political survival. That may be at least one reason for a fledgling secession movement which has garnered petitions from 33 states to date. I would note also that I have seen news stories indicating some pretty serious voter fraud from November 6th, so many of the petitioners may want a recount of the vote if they feel the 2012 presidential election might have been rigged for Obama. I can only speculate as all of this is such a new development.
Each state must have at least 25,000 people sign their petitions by December 7th 2012 for the Obama administration to give a response. Texas has already garnered more than74,000 signatures as of 11.13.2012 mid afternoon.
